Description

“One student at a time” means acknowledging that each student has different strengths, passions, needs and learning styles. Therefore, each student should have an individual Learning Plan that is tailored to fit him or her.  We want to look at students holistically, not just academically.
The student is expected to create a draft of the Learning Plan before each Learning Plan meeting. The student should play an active role in creating the Learning Plan and making sure that the work is exciting, challenging and realistic.
The advisor helps create the Learning Plan with the student, parent and mentor. S/he helps the rest of the Learning Plan team to understand the philosophy of the school. The advisor makes sure that the projects are authentic, that the student is excited, that the work is challenging, and that the overall plan is realistic. The advisor also makes sure that over the years, the student’s Learning Plans focus on different Learning Goals and lead to a well-rounded educational plan. The advisor also helps students manage their Learning Plan work throughout the term.
