It originated as a monthly magazine compiled by Scottish evangelist Duncan Matheson and various issues feature contributions from men such as C. H. Spurgeon, F. B. Meyer, D. L. Moody, William Luff, Ira Sankey, A. J. Gordon, A. A. Hodge.
