Description

I thought I was human. Then my crush shows me a new world. One I must save. It is said the Spirit Priestess will one day unite the two Kingdoms of the Maison Realm. She will one day fight alongside Wielders and unlock the five elements of power. It wasn’t until I nearly died that I realized they were talking about me. They tell me I have the power to save the world, and yet the war raging around me seems insurmountable. I must rely on those I thought shunned me long ago: a boy who isn’t who I thought, and a new realm of warriors who have come to protect me. The darkness is coming, and the Queen of Obscurité wants to ensure that the King of Lumière can’t get his hands on me. And to make that happen, the Queen will sacrifice anything—including me.

This book.. did anyone proof read this book before publishing?? The authors thoughts are disjointed and sporadic. I can honestly say I learned no new information from the 3rd chapter to the last. There was no hero story arc, she physically did a lot of walking, but didn’t grow as a character. There were entire chapters of Lyric saying the same thing 12 different ways. Her entire relationship is built upon just thinking he’s cute. There’s probably 24 lines of dialogue in the entire book. The antagonist reveals themselves and their entire plot in one chapter without Lyric having to do or say anything. The amount of times I read “I’ll think about that later”. *eye roll* There is such potential with the idea of this world, but everything, and I mean everything, just came up short. This book was awful. 10/10 don’t waste your time. It doesn’t get better.

This is a brand new series from Carrie Ann Ryan, a YA series, filled with magic and elements and all kinds of intriguing aspects. Lyric is trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life, choose what to do for college, when she keeps experiencing nightmares. She feels it has to do with life choices, until she goes on a hike with some friends. After that, life will never be the same again. This is just the start. Can’t wait to see all the experiences yet to come

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book From one of my favorite contemporary and paranormal authors comes a new series and it’s YA. Carrie Ann Ryan leads us into a world of elemental magic, a world looking for it’s savior in the form of the Spirit Priestess. Lyric, love that name btw, is a recent high school graduate trying to figure out her path in the world. She knows she’s going to college, but for what? Her friends Braelynn and Emory know what they want to do in life, but not her she is just a ordinary bisexual girl from Colorado. Well ordinary but the dreams she’s been having since she was a kid. Rhodes is the hot dude from down the road, along with his sister Rosamond they show Lyric that the world is not what it seems. Ok if you have seen the cartoon or read the Manga The Last Air Bender you can kinda get the feel of the realm of Maison. There are people that can use the four elements or more than one of them. There is also a caste system with Queens, Kings, Lords, Ladies, and the lower class. Ryan has done a excellent job bringing this new world of hers to life, it’s totally different for her but not really if that makes any sense at all. The characters, other than having magic, are real as well as the Maison Realm. It’s exciting to see Lyric, who thinks she’s nothing special just a average girl, find new things about herself and how strong she really is. Couple things though, Emory is also Lyric’s ex as well as her friend, however, she seems like a real witch to me. She’s not nice at all and seems to cause trouble and fights with everyone. Two, I don’t think that Rhodes is what he seems to be besides a hot dude that show Lyric that humans are not alone and magic is real. Oh, Oh, Oh and there is another guy Easton. He’s suppose to be one of the bad guys but I get the feeling that there is more than just the attractiveness of a bad boy about him. I can not wait until book 2, to find out more about this world and to see what kind of path that Lyric takes to become the person that she is meant to be.

I have not been a huge fan of cliff hangers, however I love this author so I gave this book 1 of multiples and all I can say is that I loved this story. Lyric is at the cusp of adulthood and is lost and doesn't know why. She has dreams that she doesn't understand and they begin intruding on her everyday life. The mystical components are done so well that you are drawn into this other realm. I can't wait for the next book to see where this unexpected part of her she never knew was buried in her soul takes her.
  • Lyric is amazing

What would you do if someone told you that not only was there another plane of existence, you and all the other people that were from that plane were magic, but you were also the salvation for that other world? Lyric may have needed to take a deep breathe and make sure she wasn't loosing touch with reality, but she was a whole lot braver than I know I could ever be. Going on this great adventure to Maison with Lyric, Rhodes, Braelynn, and Luken has left me wanting so much more. I can't wait to find out what comes next in their journey to right the kingdoms, and what is in store for Lyric and her powers.
