For years, the classic academic model involved a teacher talking and students listening. All that changed with the flipped, or inverted, class, which allowed students greater control over their own learning. This "One Best Thing" from 2015 Apple Distinguished Educator Nicole Kraft will show how teaching the inverted pyramid in journalism education can be approached in the inverted model to provide an even more compelling learning environment that gives students ownership over their own education and skill development. We will look at it through the old adage, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to catch fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” From an academic standpoint, the gift of the fish is the lecture. We teach them to fish through this inverted model.
