Mankind failed to transcend the Petroleum Age. The Die Off killed 95% of the human population. 175 years later, mankind consists of scattered nomadic tribes, isolated casino-cities, and roving swarms of predatory bandits. This is the world of the Black Dog Clan.
Chapter 3: On the road again, Lamont discovers that Tracy has a crush on Bevan. Infuriated, Lamont orders Bevan to leave. Bevan does, but when Tracy tries to follow, Lamont stops her with an act of violence that turns her against him. Tracy sneaks away in the night to find Bevan. Lamont vows to bring her back.
