Over the last few years, I've had conversations with some 250 mortgage technology vendors and more than 10 private-equity firms with interests in this sector. Here's what I've come to know: At this time, virtually every loan origination solution provider is considering a merger and acquisition (M&A) event, specifically with an eye toward becoming or being part of a larger end-to-end solution. There is also significant interest in vendors that provide one or more of what I refer to as the Three Vs: validation, verification and valuation solutions. As we have seen, the need for quality over quantity has shifted the way mortgage lenders, servicers and investors behave, and consequently the types of technologies most desired.
