Description

The Cambridge Five refers to the one of the most damaging Soviet spy rings that operated in the United Kingdom in the early stages of the Cold War. The spy ring deeply penetrated the highest echelons of the British government and intelligence services: The Secret Service (formerly MI5), which is concerned with the internal security intelligence operations, and the Secret Intelligence Service (formerly MI6), which is concerned with external security intelligence operations. The activities of the spy ring not only frustrated western intelligence and counter-intelligence efforts but also deeply damaged the relations between American intelligence agencies, such as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and their British counterparts. This book is a very brief article about the project and politics behind the Cambridge Five. This work comes from a larger work called "The History of Spying," which is also available.
