What would you change if you had to start your lifeā€”and love lifeā€”over again?

When Emma Harris wakes up from a coma she learns that her fiancĆ© and her BFF have fallen in love, sheā€™s lost her job, and the life she knew is gone. Overwhelmed but grateful to be alive she starts over from scratch. Not as easy as it sounds, of course. But sheā€™s never been a quitter, even if she wishes she could quit rehab, where her hot but evil physical therapist, Simon, puts her through the wringer.

Eager for a new beginning, Emma opens a doggy day care. Unfortunately, the only space she can afford is owned by her childhood nemesis Ali Pratt. But hey, sheā€™s been through worse, right? She tries to roll with the punches, but a friend drops his grandpa off at the doggy day care in desperation then on top of that, she and Ali bring the term ā€˜frenemiesā€™ to a whole new level. And then another grandparent shows up. And another.

In the midst of all that, Emma realizes sheā€™s accidentally fallen for Evil PT. But the most horrifying thing of all is that Ali just might have turned into the best friend sheā€™s ever had. And as Emma grows from the pain of her past and takes on her new path, she comes to realize that life isnā€™t what youā€™re given, itā€™s what you make of it.

Pretty real and emotional. Ups and downs and middles too! Just like real life. Characters are complex and yet their dreams are tangible.

Written well with some humor thrown into the mix to liven up a predictable ā€œplotā€. I almost always buy books written by this author. This is one of my favorites from her.

I love Wildstone and I love coming back to this town and this series and these characters. I loved reading Emma's and Ali's stories. Both were just so good and in completely different ways even though they were able to mend their fences. This was so very needed since Emma was starting a relationship with Ali's cousin, Emma's Physical Therapist after her accident and coma. I don't know why but I love reading about a main character who is able to overcome adversity. And in this instance, it is healing her broken body and relearning and honing her basic skills. Coming from a near-death experience, it makes sense that Emma is wanting to seize the day and live for herself. And Simon, oh how I really was tied to him with his father who has his own medical issues that Simon takes on himself. I really tapped into that and enjoyed his storyline so much.

I love the Wildstone series and this book is a perfect example of why. Jill Shalvis writes a world that I can fall into and root for the characters. We get to see favorites from previous books, but there's nothing that a new reader would be confused about. I've been eagerly anticipating this book since I heard it was coming and it definitely delivers.

Shalvis still has it! This is a feel-good but still very realistic romance set in Wildstone, and I loved Emma, Simon and Alison. I also fell for Dale, and of course, Hog and Killer, too. I love how Shalvis manages to bring everything together. People who seem like they could never be friends, strangers who need a little lift to continue on this strange and sometimes difficult path called life. Love in unexpected places, even when some of the characters worthy of love do things that are really stupid! Like not being able to share their feelings fully, for fear of being hurt. All of this is what also makes her stories not only incredibly relatable, but also so very realistic! I'm betting Love for Beginners is going to be a summer hit this year, and hopefully, we'll all be able to go somewhere else than our own yard (or even town!) to read it in a favorite place we haven't been able to visit in a long time.
  • Very touching, inspirational romance.

Love for beginners is life lessons for the love impaired. Love for Beginners is a survival guide for the hopeless, the helpless. Love for Beginners is a happily ever after, not just for Simon and Emma, but for the reader that takes the lessons within the pages and believes in them. Love for Beginners was perfection, encouragement, and a beautiful love story. I am a big fan of the Wildstone series, but I am an even bigger fan of Love for Beginners. The character journeys are real, believable, identifiable. I want to walk in their shoes and be a success. I want to take their words and find hope. I may not run a 5k. I may not find a perfect relationship. What I will do is not give up. What I do have is a role model, more than one. Every day is a new beginning. Thanks to Jill Shalvis, I have a new life motto, "Your best days aren't behind you. They are right in front of you." Thanks to Jill Shalvis, I want to have that moment where I can say, "Every moment with you feels lucky". Who knew Icould learn so much from a contemporary romance? I can't wait for the next book by the author. I am ready and waiting.

I love the way Jill Shalvis draws us, the readers, into her stories and has our minds playing video like weā€™re watching a movie. Iā€™m hooked from the moment I open her books. This book is about 2nd chances, misunderstandings and new beginnings. Definitely a keeper to be read again...and again.
