Description

John Francis Campbell was a Scottish author, mostly known as a collector of folklore. Inspired by the work of the Grimm brothers and by Scandinavian scholars, John Campbell used his fluent Gaelic to study the Gaelic oral tradition, and published four volumes of collected stories as “Popular Tales of the West Highlands Orally Collected”, with a Translation in 1860-1862.
Once upon a time there was a knight who had three daughters. One day a mysterious beast carried them off. A soldier's three sons were going to play a game at Christmas, but the knight said that they must find his daughters and beat the beast. The brothers set out, they travelled for a long time and finally, they found a place where men were preparing for the wedding of the three daughters to three giants. What happened next?
