"If you've ever felt ugly, fat, or just not enough for anyone to like you, then this should be in your reading list. Scratch that. At the top of your list." - Goodreads Reviewer

Whirling from a life that's crumbling around her, Jennifer Carpenter devotes herself to the one thing she can control: becoming the ideal version of herself—a thinner version—no matter the cost.

She isn't always nice. She isn't always likable, but she's honest.

Skinny Me is an in-depth look at the complicated layers of insecurity and depression that can stem from seeking self-worth and beauty in the numbers on a scale.

This novel is beautiful, harsh, and truthful in its characterization of a woman who is flawed, yet inspirational.

The only thing the author doesn’t talk about is how the world does, in deed, judge and criticize fat people. At one point, Jennifer states that, ironically, she has been the one judging and criticizing. While this maybe true, it is also true that people-including family-often judge and criticize; even hate over-weight people. Never the less, this is a poignant story for people on both sides of the coin. A story with the power motivate change in our society and to give us a lesson in kindness—especially to ourselves.

This story could be oh so true and was very believable. Liked that there were not any detailed love scenes and that the profanity was few and far between. Was interesting and kept your curiosity as what the main character would do next. I enjoyed this read

This book is a must read for anyone who has ever felt down, broken, ugly...the characters aren't perfect, but they are honest and real, which makes this an utterly relatable story that will stick with you.

  • Such an inspiration!

As someone who has been morbidly obese my whole life, I could absolutely relate to Jenn. My mom weighed more than 650 pounds when she passed at the age of 60 and I struggle every day to avoid a similar fate. I felt like Jenn was a very real and inspiring character.

Thoroughly honest portrayal of the psychological turmoil that lives with the "not happy with myself" that so many struggle with. The author did a beautiful job of the "lightbulb" moment that comes for some, but sadly never arrives for others. Woulf highly recommend!
