  • Description

Bestselling author Jodi Picoult is a masterful storyteller, who “writes with a fine touch, a sharp eye for detail, and a firm grasp of the delicacy and complexity of human relationships” (The Boston Globe). Now, in this original short story, available exclusively as an eBook, Picoult introduces Serenity Jones, one of the fascinating characters from her eagerly awaited new novel, Leaving Time.
Even as a child, Serenity Jones knew she possessed unusual psychic gifts. Now, decades later, she’s an acclaimed medium and host of her own widely viewed TV show, where she delivers messages to the living from loved ones who have passed. Lately, though, her efforts to boost ratings and garner fame have compromised her clairvoyant instincts. When Serenity books a young war widow to appear as a guest, the episode quickly unravels, stirring up a troubling controversy. And as she tries to undo the damage—to both her reputation and her show—Serenity finds that pride comes at a high price.

It seemed like a good story but ended so abruptly with a few words I couldn't understand.
    • It's just a teaser for the full novel Leaving Time

I like Jodi Picoult and have several of her books. I acquired Where there's Smoke thinking that it was a collection of short stories. But it turned out to be a teaser for her full novel Leaving Time, which I own and have read.

By Forbidden is an amazing book!
It is a wonderful book. Some parts are sad or cofusing but it is a very good book!
    • Chills...

      By Mary Danielle
The story goes like a roller coaster ride which only goes up until you reach the end which is the downward part of the ride. The events are thrilling and gave me chills especially when you're reading it at 2 AM.

Some of her writing seems to me to be aimed at readers with a tenth grade education I like most of her plots but a lot of her stuff strikes me as "young reader"
    • Read this then read "Leaving Time"

    • So good.........abrupt ending :(

I have been addicted to Jodi Picoult forever! I expect amazing stories from her and this was a good fast read that I was hoping was going to give a little more of the ending. I understand it's a "short" story but her usual layout of a story is more in depth. You don't really get a feel for the characters. Kinda disappointed that you never find out if it's the same man.
    • Too short

It was getting so good until the very end leaves you hanging!
