Author William Wordsworth was born and spent much of his life in England’s Lake District. In the early 1800s he found himself in need of cash and wrote the descriptions for this guidebook to the district, which was initially published anonymously. The book has proven influential, both for its 19th-century geographic descriptions and for its relationship to the poetry of the early Romantic Movement.
