Description

#1 New York Times Best Seller! Following his ground-breaking, critically acclaimed run on Detective Comics, writer Scott Snyder (American Vampire) alongside artist Greg Capullo (Spawn) begins a new era of The Dark Knight with the relaunch of Batman, as a part of DC Comics—The New 52! After a series of brutal murders rocks Gotham City, Batman begins to realize that perhaps these crimes go far deeper than appearances suggest. As the Caped Crusader begins to unravel this deadly mystery, he discovers a conspiracy going back to his youth and beyond to the origins of the city he's sworn to protect. Could the Court of Owls, once thought to be nothing more than an urban legend, be behind the crime and corruption? Or is Bruce Wayne losing his grip on sanity and falling prey to the pressures of his war on crime?

First comic I have purchased in 10+ years. Very much enjoyed the visual and the mystery. I put it down but found myself wondering all day what was going to happen.

I was hesitant to pick this up because of the mixed emotions I had heard about the New 52. But I am so glad that I did. This could be one of the fifteen best Batman comics ever written. Makes me look forward to what Scott Snyder has planned next for the Caped Crusader. Grade: A+

...but I wish the viewing layout was better and had better customization like I am used to with other iBooks. It would be nice to have the ability to view one page at a time full screen in portrait more easily, as well as toggle the border on/off. I'm glad more Batman graphic novels have hit the iBookstore, but am most looking forward to seeing #0 of this series as well as Volume 2.
  • Great new story

It's story arcs like this that make Batman the best superhero comic to read. This is a fresh take on a classic hero, throwing in enough details to make the Court of the Owls fit nicely into Gotham's history. I suggest this to any Batman fan, new or old.

Court of Owls is a great story. I had given up on reading Batman years ago when Grant Morrison took over writing duties. When the New 52 was announced, I decided to give it another chance and I'm really happy that I did. Such a good story and great art to boot. Regarding Walker_Boh's review, the pages are supposed to go sideways and then upside down. If you're holding the print copy in your hand, you can rotate it to make it look right. Without getting too spoiler-y, Batman gets drugged midway through the story and the artist played with the medium to reflect that. You'll probably just want to lock your rotation before you read this story.
