Description

Jack Winchester was a notorious hitman for a ruthless New Jersey crime family until a job went wrong, and he wound up serving time.

Four years later, Jack is free and he wants out of the game, but his boss won't let him go. Forced to take on one last job to make amends for what landed him in prison, he travels to the small town of Rockland Cove, Maine.

There, he not only discovers that the target and money have disappeared; he finds himself falling for a damaged woman, and befriending an unruly son left behind.

Under mounting pressure from his boss and local police—as well as the ghosts of his past—he must unravel the mystery and decide where his loyalties lie…before it's too late.

Note: Even though there is a book 2. This is a full standalone novel with a complete ending.

Loved it! This book is fast paced; a real page-turner! Great characters that are very relatable and just enough heat to keep things interesting.

It was a good read. A tad predictable, however the ending surprised me and seeing there is going to be a series, I'm intrigued as to see what happens with these characters. I'm not an avid reader so the fact the author kept me engaged in the story says a lot. A friend is going thru a rough time in his life, said he was reading this book, so I decided to join in just to give him a "reading buddy" if you will. Glad to see this will be a series.

Good story. Beginning catches the interest. Who of us wouldn't like a fresh start? Middle draws you in further. A fresh start comes at a price. Ending appeals to the adventurer and romantic in us. Action novels, thrillers can be great stories without vulgarity, graphic sex or violence. This gets four stars from me primarily because of language.

Crime/mystery/action/family troubles/romance. This book includes all these and without giving away too much.
  • I Didn't Like the Plot

It's boring and doesn't focus on the one character.
  • Great story, bad editing

Bad editing really slowed the reading process but it was worth it. A good storyline ( though somewhat predictable) kept the pages turning at a quick pace. Enjoyed the book and will definitely be interested in the future tales of Jack Winchester.
  • Terrible, unbelievable, no flow

Pitiful writing. The storyline was decent but not well researched. Very amateurish. It was free, at least.
  • Good, glad I read it.

Guess I just can't rate. I gotta type something. It is the old 'bad guy suddenly has a heart and wants to change his life for the better' story. I like that. Even better, I like the Maine local. Never been there but I really like the ocean, sun, beach, and laid back atmosphere. Never quite understood how the sheriff was involved with the mob through his son. So I made up my own scenario. That's all. Thx
