The farm-to-table food movement in Hawaii can be luscious, exotic… murder.

Lieutenant Michael Stevens investigates a murder in a fine dining restaurant on Maui that’s a Feast of possible motives, with jealousy, passion and revenge topping the menu. A host of familiar characters, from Jared Stevens to Dr. Wilson, chime in from their perspectives, each contributing essential information to one of the most complex cases Stevens has ever encountered—but that’s nothing compared to imminent parenthood with his wife Lei, who’d rather be packing a gun than a diaper bag.

"Neal's writing is persistently riveting...Masterly." ~Kirkus Reviews

  • Love this entire series!

This time around Toby has made the last book in the series a collection of novellas per say in that we get POVs from several lovable characters of this amazing series. Lei is preparing as much as possible for their new baby and has grown tremendously over the course of the series. Stevens is working on recovering physically and mentally from his ordeal in Central America making his family his priority to get his life back on track. We get to see his protege Brandon Mahoe come into his role as a Detective. We get a little insight from Dr. Wilson and her relationship with Lei and Stevens over the years. We hear from Stevens’s brother Jared, Lei’s father Wayne, even the Steel Butterfly, Captain Omura, let’s us into her inner thoughts. All in all Toby did a splendid job wrapping up this series even leaving an opening for more possible stories from our favorite Hawai‘i men and women in blue. I certainly hope to hear from them again in the near future.
  • Thank you, Toby Neal, for this series!

I just finished Bitter Feast, number 12 and last in the series, and have loved each story! As a high school English teacher with books and essays I must read for school, these Lei Crime series books have been my personal escape into the beauty and culture of Hawaii and the lives of Lei and Stephens. My husband is right behind me, reading each one as did I. I rarely write reviews, but want to express my appreciation and respect for Ms. Neal and her wonderful cast of characters - each with his or her flaws, gifts, and story. You will smile with them, and shed tears with them. Mostly, you'll join them as they live their lives while seeking justice for homicide victims. I will miss each and every one of them!
