«Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860 – 1935) was a prominent American writer, sociologist, novelist, educator and social reformer, who is mostly known for her utopian feminists creeds. Her best remembered work today is the semi-autobiographical short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" which she wrote after a severe postpartum psychosis attack.
Published in 1892, "The Yellow Wallpaper" is a 6,000-word short story about a woman who is ill and goes insane. She stares at her yellow wallpaper and gets so irritated and frustrated, that after a while she rips it off the wall. Deep psychological work, it is regarded as an important early work of American feminist literature and will be interesting for every connoisseur of high-quality stories.
